The Arab League on Wednesday is expected to approve a proposal to approach the UN Security Council in an attempt to secure Palestinian recognition, UN officials have said. The Arab League will meet in Doha to formulate a finalized proposal between the Palestinian Authority and the league aimed at ensuring a majority vote for Palestinian statehood at the annual General Assembly session in September. The Arabs know that an appeal at the UN Security Council will possibly be vetoed by the US. But they believe that the discussion of the issue at the Security Council will itself boost the Palestinian standing in the UN.
