Al Qaeda No. 2 Zawahri to Succeed Bin Laden

Ayman Al-Zawahri, the Egyptian-born surgeon and doctor, has been Al-Qaeda’s second-in-command. He is now likely to replace Osama bin Laden after the latter died in a ground operation in Pakistan conducted by US forces. Zawahri has been the mastermind behind the Al-Qaeda network and often its public face, frequently denouncing the US and its allies in his video tapes. In his most recent appearance last month, Zawahri urged the Muslims to fight US and NATO troops in Libya.
