The Sheikh Abdullah Azzam Brigade claimed responsibility for four Katyusha rockets fired into Israel on Tuesday. The militant Islamic organization which works under the umbrella of Al-Qaida carried out the attack from across the border, using their hideouts in neighboring Lebanon.
Two buildings in Western Galilee were damaged in the attack but no casualties have been reported. A gas tank was also hit, causing a blaze, which firefighters battled for four hours to get under control. Israel expressed its anger over the incident, holding the Lebanese government responsible; “The Lebanese government is responsible for everything that happens in Lebanon and everything that exits from its border,” Home Front Defense Minister Matan Vilnai said.
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) also met with officials of the Israeli Defense Forces and the Lebanese army in an emergency meeting following the attack to take measures to prevent further violence in the region.
