Pakistan’s top military brass is due to hold “special” talks this week to discuss new US demands, including decisive action against militants on Pakistani soil. The meeting between the corps commanders, to be chaired by Military Chief Gen. Ashfaque Pervez Kiyani, comes amid reports claiming that the government has eventually decided to accept the long-standing American demand to launch a full-scale operation in North Waziristan, accused of carrying out deadly cross-border attacks on US and NATO troops in Afghanistan. It is not clear which groups would be targeted and if it would include militants tied to Haqqani network, Hafiz Gul Bahadur and Mullah Nazir. There is also talk about conducting some of these operations jointly with NATO/US forces.
