President Barack Obama has approved the use of unmanned drone aircrafts in Libya, a move that will deepen US military involvement in the conflict. The US Air Force on Thursday started flying armed drones over Libya and, according to officials, will continue to maintain a minimum of two aircrafts over the African nation all the time. Talking to reporters on Thursday, Defense Secretary Robert Gates reiterated that the use of drones wasn’t a prelude to greater US commitment involving ground troops or more aircraft strikes. Armed drones are already being used in places like Pakistan, Afghanistan and Yemen to target militants.
