Context

The US is planning a new push to foster comprehensive Israeli-Arab peace, according to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, referring to reinvigorated US efforts in trying to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli dispute. President Obama will devise US policy for North Africa and the Middle East in the upcoming weeks, Clinton told US and Arab policy makers in an address that placed particular stress on Palestinian-Israeli peace. Clinton’s comments come at a time when popular revolts have overthrown long-time dictatorial leaders in Egypt and Tunisia this year and sparked anti-government protests in most parts of the Arab world, including Bahrain, Libya, Yemen and Syria.
