The US is attempting to prevent further row in relations between its two major regional allies, Israel and Turkey, on the first anniversary of the Mavi Marmara aid ship incident in which nine Turkish human rights activists were killed by Israeli forces. Washington wants to stop a likely Ankara retaliation against Tel Aviv in the form of stopping the long-awaited appointment of Kerim Uras as the Turkish ambassador to Israel. Uras was chosen for this post prior to the Mavi Marmara catastrophe, but the appointment was left suspended in response to the killings of activists. The second thing America is concerned about is to stop another flotilla to Israel and is making use of all its diplomatic channels to avoid the repeat of the incident.
