Context
Brazil has expressed interest in enhancing fuel ethanol productivity in collaboration with Pakistan. A Brazilian delegation arrived in Pakistan on Monday to discuss the possibility of cooperation between the two countries on the production of energy sources including bio fuel, ethanol.
Pakistan has 19 ethanol refineries producing half a million tones, of which 50 percent is non-fuel ethanol. Brazil hopes to provide Pakistan with technical assistance to increase efficiency and reduce wastage. The country will also help Pakistan upgrade its distilleries. Brazil has an advanced ethanol producing technology and uses 100 per cent ethanol in vehicles since the last 20 years.
The manufacturing of Flexible Fuel Vehicles (FFV) using hydrous alcohol, the transfer of knowledge on off season vegetable production and pesticides were also considered possible areas of cooperation between the countries.
