A suicide bomb blast at a road construction firm in the south-eastern Afghan province of Paktika left 13 people dead and 50 others wounded, according to a spokesperson for the provincial government. Reports said that the bomber smashed his vehicle packed with explosives into the company’s building. Engineers, security guards and construction workers were among the dead. Nobody has yet accepted responsibility for the bombing. Paktika shares a long border with Pakistan. The Al Qaeda- linked Haqqani group, which operates from Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal region, is particularly active in this area.
