Context
Western countries conducting a military action in Libya are ready to allow NATO to take charge of the campaign but other member nations of the alliance are still divided over how to handle the matter. US President Obama, UK Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Nicolas Sarkozy have all agreed that NATO should play a major part in the mission in Libya. The allies, however, stopped short of backing NATO’s leadership of the campaign after opposition from Turkey, which has warned that it would only agree to NATO taking over the mission in Libya if it was within the framework of the UN’s decision. Meanwhile, Saudi Foreign Minister reiterated its support for UN mandate in Libya.
