Baloch rebels assailed the security forces on Wednesday night, killing 15 soldiers and injuring another 12. About two-dozen gunmen attacked two security posts in Margut, which is 60 km east of Quetta. The check posts were meant to provide security for the coalmines located there. Reports indicate the assailants belonged to the Baloch militant group led by Harbiar Marri, who is in self-exile in London.

Baloch rebels are seeking greater political autonomy and more share in the natural oil, gas and mineral resources of the province.
