India may lift its veto on European Union (EU) duty waiver for Pakistan, which has been badly affected by floods. India is expected to withdraw its objections of a European Union duty free program for Pakistani products. An Indian trade ministry official refused to confirm, but conceded the issue would be discussed in a meeting of Pakistan’s and India’s trade ministers in Delhi on Sept 28. The move, if also approved by the WTO and the European Parliament, could allow duty free imports of a list of Pakistani products including textiles and ethanol as early as January.
The developments signify improving relations between the two countries.
