Palestine officials are confident of support for their bid for full membership in the United Nations. According to Nabil Shaath, a senior negotiator, the Palestinian authorities expect around 140 countries to vote in favor of an independent state of Palestine in the General Assembly meetings starting September 23. He said this was a result of extensive efforts by Ramallah to convince world leaders to accept the Palestine state.

Palestine’s demands for full membership in the UN comes after peace talks with Israel remain moot.
