Context
Anna Hazare, an Indian anti-corruption activist, declined to leave Delhi’s Tihar prison on Wednesday. Hazare, who has been calling for a tougher lokpal bill to curb corruption, was detained and imprisoned on Tuesday, but freed 12 hours later by authorities in a surprise move. His decision to not leave the jail could prove to be problematic for the government, which is believed to have been floundering. The Congress leaders have struggled to defend their previous hard-line stance towards a Gandhanian who is seen as a symbol of India’s campaign against corruption.
