Context
In an attempt to prevent Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas from seeking UN recognition of a Palestinian state, Israel is contemplating to walk away from the Oslo accords which constitute the legal grounds on which the Palestinian authority was founded. Israeli officials hinted recently they could cancel the accords and perhaps all other treaties signed with Palestine since 1993. Israel is against Abbas’ plan due to the fact that recognition of a Palestine state by the UN General Assembly even if the US vetoes it in the Security Council will give the Palestinians more options, even allowing them to file a case against Israel in the International Criminal Court in The Hague for war crimes.
