Germany will now compensate for its abstention in the American-led military campaign in Libya by committing 300 additional soldiers to Afghanistan. The German cabinet decided on Wednesday that German troops would replace the team in charge of airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft, used for monitoring Afghanistan’s airspace. With this move, Germany is hoping to free up NATO soldiers for similar operations in Libya.
