Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa on Friday said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) considered the Parliamentary committee’s decision superior to that of the Supreme Court. Khosa said the executives held the prerogative to appoint an inquiry commission; the government announced the Parliamentary Committee on National Security would investigate the memo gate scandal.

However, on Thursday a nine member panel of judges led by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry ordered a commission headed by former police officer, Tariq Khosa to investigate the matter. Khosa relied on the Commission of Inquiry Act 1956 to claim that the Supreme Court could not order the formation of a commission, as only the chief executive could put forward to the chief justice. He also announced the PPP would launch the “Wafaq Bachao Tehreek” to protest against the courts order to form the commission.

PML-N on Thursday succeeded in bringing the issue of the memo gate affair to the notice of the Supreme Court.
