At least 29 persons were killed Thursday in different incidents of firing in the southern Pakistani port city of Karachi, taking death toll resulting from ethnic and political violence to 90 during the last four days, according to media reports. Parts of the city remained tense throughout Thursday and many shops, businesses and petrol stations were shut down due to security concerns. Rival ethnic groups, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Awami National Party or ANP, have been blaming each other for target killings, but local authorities said that criminal gangs were also involved in the recent spate of violence in Karachi.
