Pakistan economy has suffered $67.93bn worth of direct and indirect losses due to its frontline role in the campaign against militants, miscreants and terrorists since 2001 besides the damage caused to the country’s social fabric. According to the 2010-11 Pakistan Economic Survey, the events taking place in neighboring Afghanistan after 9/11 worsened the security situation in Pakistan. It also prevented FDI inflows, reduced tax collection and import demand, affected exports and hindered the overall economic progress, the survey said. The war against terrorism has so far claimed the lives of over 35,000 Pakistani citizens and around 3,500 military personnel.
