The Czech Republic has decided to pull out of US missile shield initiatives out of disappointment at its reduced role, Czech Minister of Defense Alexander Vondra said on Monday. The Bush administration had previously proposed deploying a sophisticated radar system in the Czech Republic and 10 anti-missile systems in Poland, saying the move was aimed at confronting Iranian missile threats in the future. Later, in Sep 2009, the administration of President Obama canceled that program and presented a new plan with a smaller role for the Czech Republic, which was offered an early warning system for detecting missiles targeting NATO’s territory.
