Context

A survey published on Tuesday by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation found that 56% of the countries citizens view the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) as an occupying force in Afghanistan. 39 % see the foreign troops as providing security as opposed to 45% last year. Furthermore, 60% believe their country will be mired in civil war once the NATO forces leave in 2014.

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation, in affiliation with the National Centre for Policy Research at the University of Kabu conducted the survey and nearly 5000 Afghans were interviewed. Although the Konrad Adenauer Foundation has warned the polls are not strictly representative. The head of the Afghanistan office for the foundation, Babak Khalatbari has said the results were a matter of concern. According to the survey only 28% surveyed had faith in the country’s ministries and agencies.
