Pakistan lashed out against the US, saying it will not escalate its efforts in the war on terror. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani told the All Party Conference “Pakistan cannot be pressurized to do more.” Officials argue the Pakistani army is too stretched in its current battles to open up any new attack fronts.

Washington has expressed dissatisfaction with Pakistan’s efforts against extremism. Top US military officer Mike Mullen accused Pakistan’s Intelligence agency of supporting the Haqqani network, calling it a “veritable arm” of the ISI. Islamabad has repeatedly denied it has links to the Haqqani group that is responsible for the deadly attacks on US and NATO troops in Afghanistan.
